Short Range UT (SRUT)

Introduction

SRUT is basically an Ultrasound Testing technique screening tool for corrosion detection of in–accessible under the support. Pulsed guided laminar Ultrasonic waves are generated using special purpose ultrasonic probes. When laminar waves hit discontinuities they are mode converted and the reflection of the waves are detected by the transducer.

Application

SRUT is useful tool for qualitative assessment of inaccessible area of Pipe under support and Annular plate of storage tanks.

SRUT wave can be used for the inspection over three to four feet of plate / pipe distance.

The inspection can be done when tank / pipe is in service.

SRUT technique is presently developing technique and applicable over thickness range of 6 to 25 mm.

Generally detected discontinuities are reported in the percentage remaining wall thickness and sizing accuracy is ±10%.

Benefits

SRUT is a screening non–destructive test method to detect corrosion on the pipe wall or plates concealed under support structures or structural shell.

100% of surface area (three to four feet) can be scanned within single inspection.

Fast reliable and proven result for qualitative analysis of the component.

Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL)

Introduction

MFL is fast, reliable and proven method for detection and measurement of corrosion in the storage tank floor plates. Permanent magnet saturate the local area of interest with a magnetic field. Over the indication area the disturbance in the magnetic field gives leakage of filed. Suitable sensors (Hall Effect) are used to give an electrical signal at the leakage site. This signal may operate an audible or visual alarm to alert the inspector, or may store the event for computer mapping of the area.

Application

Suitable for Tank floor (ferrous) Bottom plates and Annular plates.

Benefits

Fast and reliable inspection result gives Qualitative status of the floor plates. Capable of discriminating between and bottom indication for better corrosion analysis. Provides records of assessment that can be used to demonstrate compliance with operation standards and guidelines such as EEMUA 159 and API 653. Scan data can be archived for future inspection comparison.
